Recruiting Information and Expectations

As you begin your journey, here are a few points to help you navigate the process.

  1. Register with the NCAA eligiblity Center and get a NCAA ID number. Understanding these requirements early will help keep you on track.  Plus, strong grades and test scores make you more appealing to college coaches—top academic performers often stand out in the recruiting process.
  2. Compete in mutli-day tournaments, taking into account course difficulty and especially those with 6,000+ yardages.  Competing in these tournaments and building your ranking on Junior Golf Scoreboard increases your visibility with college programs.
  3. Since coaches can’t attend every tournament, your online presence matters. Make it easy for coaches to learn about you and track your progress. Update it frequently!  Create a detailed online profile that includes:
    1. Tournament scores & handicap
    2. Swing videos
      1. around 10 min
      2. “down the line” and “face on” angles; including chips, pitches and bunker shots; short, medium and long putts from both angles)
    3. Playing a couple holes
      1. around 5 min
      2. include pre-shot preparation, execution of your full swing, body language and follow-through after the shot, approach to the next shot and strategic discussion, utting routine and completion of the hole)
    4. academic stats
    5. contact information.
  4. Take the initiative to connect with college coaches. Send a personalized email that includes your profile link, swing video, academic background, athletic highlights, and a brief note on why you're interested in their program. Avoid copy-paste emails—coaches appreciate authenticity. Keep following up throughout the year with updates on your performance and progress.  Don't be discouraged if they do not respond, especially if it's outside of the contact window.
